BRILLER INSIGHTS
Explore Briller’s actual advice for this living-room redesign. Change the budget to compare how the lighting, wall finishes and fitted details could be built.
Standard · Suggested specificationA 50 mm dropped plasterboard ceiling with an aluminium shadow-gap cove profile, 24 V / 2700 K COB LED strip (14.4 W/m) and a remote driver.
How to implement it
Prepare a flat ceiling, then frame a perimeter pocket set back 50–80 mm from the walls. Fit the LED extrusion and diffuser into the trough, run 24 V wiring to an accessible driver, and finish the plasterboard edge to the trim bead.
What changes: A recessed profile conceals the light source and creates the continuous ceiling glow.
Standard · Suggested specificationWhite-oak-veneered MDF slats on a 9 mm recycled PET acoustic felt backer, fixed to timber counter-battens with black fasteners.
How to implement it
Remove the wallpaper and prepare the substrate. Fix 20 × 45 mm counter-battens at 400 mm centres to suitable wall structure; fasten through the felt gaps. Form electrical and AV openings behind the TV before completing the cladding.
What changes: Natural oak veneer adds real timber texture; the battened build-up provides space to coordinate fixings and cabling.
Standard · Suggested specificationA plasterboard ceiling pocket, 150 mm wide × 100 mm deep, with a dual-channel aluminium curtain track fixed into structural framing.
How to implement it
Frame the pocket with UW/CW 50 steel profiles and 12.5 mm plasterboard. Finish the lower edge with a stop bead or aluminium trim; fix the continuous track into joists or timber noggings inside the recess.
What changes: The ceiling itself conceals the track, giving the full-height curtains a cleaner junction.
Standard · Suggested specificationCustom oak-veneered plywood shelves with concealed steel support rods, plus a low credenza with Blum soft-close hardware on a recessed plinth.
How to implement it
Locate studs or sound masonry and add 45 × 95 mm timber noggings where required. Fix load-rated concealed brackets into structural support, slide on the shelves and secure from below. Route AV cables through grommets to the TV chase.
What changes: Fitted veneer joinery hides the supports and cabling while the recessed plinth lightens the cabinet’s appearance.

Briller.House brings together Mike Briller’s personal experience and the practical know-how of his colleagues — architects, designers and construction workers — in an AI-assisted knowledge base of modern design and construction solutions. Mike is the face of this shared expertise.
Briller is designed to use the existing walls, doors and windows as constraints. Check each generated image against your original room; AI results are visual concepts, not construction drawings or a guarantee of exact geometry.
The workflow accepts room photos or sketches, style references and optional architectural drawings. Check the studio upload interface for current supported file types and size limits.
